Rosehips can be found in Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia, and are extensively cultivated. The fruits (or hips) are oval and scarlet in colour, and taste sweet and acidulous.
The fruit contains vitamins, including vitamin A, C, and K, thiamine, riboflavine and niacin. It also consists of flavonoids, such as rutin, invert sugar, pectin, plant acids, and traces of essential oil.
Rosehip extract is used medicinally for its astringent and antidiarrhoeal properties, and as a source of vitamin C.
