Chondroitin is a simple molecule that occurs naturally in the body. It is a carbohydrate polymer derived from the polymer D-glucuronic acid beta (1-3)D-N-acetyl galactosamine beta (1-4).

Chondroitin is a major component of cartilage - the tough connective tissue that cushions the joint, and helps to keep it resilient by absorbing fluid into the connective tissue.
