Our history

Cambridge Commodities was established in July 1998. We have over 22 years’ experience in quality and sourcing to passionately provide over 2500 nutritional ingredients to the sports nutrition, health & wellbeing, pet & equine and food industries.

With over 100+ staff at our headquarters in Cambridgeshire, England and an additional 20+ in the USA and Europe, we bring the newest ingredients to market, drive trends and are constantly looking forward to supply products that meet the demands of consumer driven marketplaces.

Our timeline

  • James Stevens

    1998

    Founding

    CC was founded by James Stevens from his bedroom in Ely.

  • 1998-2003

    Our first warehouse

    CC rented warehouse space on Lancaster Way Business Park.

  • 2003-2012

    Second warehouse

    We moved to Unit 59 Lancaster Way. 6000 sq.ft (557 sq.m). 300 pallet capacity.

  • 2009

    Informed-Sport accreditation

    CC becomes the first UK ingredient supplier to gain Informed-Sport site accreditation.

  • May 2012

    First exhibition

    CC exhibits at Vitafoods Europe for the first time.

  • 2012

    Ely Standard Business awards 2012

    CC's first business award win!

  • 2012-2015

    CC moves to a larger space

    Moved to Unit 78 Lancaster Way, 36,000 sq.ft. (3344.5 sq.m). Approx 20 staff and 3000 pallet spaces.

  • 2013

    Another award

    Small business of the year 2013.

  • 2015

    International Track 200 award

    Ranked on The Sunday Times International Track 200 for the first time.

  • May 2015

    Headquarters and warehouse expansion

    CC moved to Unit 203 Lancaster Way, 100,000 sq.ft (9290 sq.m), 80,000 sq.ft warehouse, 10,000 pallet spaces. The warehouse features an ISO Class 8 cleanrooms and sampling area.

  • August 2015

    Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust

    Started charity partnership with Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT).

  • 2016

    Expansion into Europe

    We expanded into Europe with offices open in France, Spain and Sweden.

  • 2017

    Further expansion

    Further European expansion into Hungary, Poland and Italy.

  • Jan 2018

    Accreditation

    Received 1 Star Best Companies accreditation.

  • July 2018

    New acquisition

    We acquired ingredient business Earth Circle Organics LLC to form new CC US division, Earth Circle Ingredients.

  • 2018

    Gold accreditation

    Received Best Employers of the Eastern Region gold accreditation.

  • 2018

    £20k for 20 years ACT

    Cambridge Commodities raised over double the target. 20k for 20 years ACT £51,272.24.

    Ely Tigers

    Cambridge Commodities sponsor its local rugby club, Ely Tigers.

    International Track 200 accreditation

    Our fifth time in The Sunday Times International Track 200.

  • Feb 2020

    Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust

    We raise an incredible £107,000 for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT).

    Cambridgeshire Limited

    Cambridge Commodities is listed in the Cambridgeshire Limited Top 100 companies.

    Second acquisition in US

    We acquired US-based ingredient supplier, Ultimate Superfoods, further expanding our service and offering in the states.

    International Track 200 Accreditation

    It’s our sixth time being ranked in The Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 league table.

    Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust

    Despite the pandemic, we managed to raise an amazing £76,385.12 for ACT.

    We are included in the Cambridgeshire Limited top 100 companies by turnover as well as one of the top 50 most profitable in the region.

    Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust

    We continue our fundraising efforts for ACT to reach a phenomenal £67,000 for the charity.

    GMP+ Certified

    Cambridge Commodities is GMP+ certified adding another accreditation to its portfolio.

    BRC Audit

    We pass our first unannounced BRC audit meaning we achieve the highest grade of AA+.

  • Jun 2022

    Cambridge Regenerative

    Our US team launch Cambridge Regenerative, ensuring high standards of quality and compliance.
