Description

Aronia berries get their dark purple colouring from a group of polyphenolic compounds called anthocyanins. These compounds are produced by the plant to protect the berry from constant exposure to ultraviolet radiation and production of free radicals. These blue-purple pigments filter the intense sunlight, absorbing the UV light.
